The proprietor of the University is the Federal Government of Nigeria which appoints the Council to be chaired by the Pro-chancellor. The Vice-chancellor is the Chairman of Senate, and Deans are heads of Faculties.
The Senate of the University is the highest academic decision-making body. All Faculties and Departments must make their submissions to Senate for approval. These submissions must have passed through faculty board of studies.
The Council is saddled with the responsibility of general control and monitoring of policies in terms of employment, appointments, promotions, projects, finances and other disciplinary matters.
The Senate is responsible for making all policies on academic matters. It is responsible for organizing, controlling and monitoring teaching, examinations, admissions, research, and conduct of students.
Faculty Boards, Departments, Directorates and Units help in the general administrative functions of the University as a whole.
